Meet The Manager – Mark from Sheffield Parkway

Marvellous Mark from perfect Sheffield Parkway is the Manager we’re meeting today.

How long have you worked for us?

Five years and I enjoyed everyone of them

How long have you been a manager?

Five years in bingo and nearly 30 years in retail, I know I don’t look old enough!!!

What’s the best thing about your club?

It’s the people, our amazing customers and great colleagues and the fun we have. The club has a real sense of community as we play, eat, drink and win together .

What’s the most exciting thing that has happened while you’ve been a manager?

The excitement is every day , something  great happens every day , it could be a big win , a win which is big for somebody , a chance encounter , a big promotional night , a busy session , a shared joke , the great thing about bingo is that something is happening all the time and you don’t have to wait long for the next laugh or adrenaline rush .

Why should people come to your club?

It’s a safe and fun environment with great service and standards and brilliant prize money – it’s a community hearted club where people matter

What are your favourite hobbies?

Fishing, I am not the best, but I really enjoy it. Also love family time with my grandchildren and reading, medieval history, researching my family history, listening to music (I have a very eclectic taste) and battlefields

Hamster sized hippo or hippo sized hamster?

Or Whale sized Carp or Carp sized Whale – who writes these questions?

What’s your biggest fear?

Having to sing at a karaoke – I can’t sing for toffee and have never done it

What’s your karaoke song?

Please see above – I can’t even think of the song I would like to sing without a fear of dread

What’s your hidden talent?

If I reveal all they wouldn’t be hidden, but I used to run at a high level and have some impressive long-distance times ( you would never guess that looking at me now!), I used to do a lot of medieval re-enacting but there’s not a lot of give in armour as my waistline expanded and I do enjoy shooting my traditional longbow but don’t get a lot of opportunities these days.

If you could be on any TV show what would it be and why?

Having already done Hairy Bikers and worked on a few other TV and film projects it would definitely have to be a Big Brother or Celebrity Jungle type show, mingling with the celebs, doing the tasks etc, My wife says I would be perfect in them but she is probably looking forward to a few weeks peace and quiet!!

What would be your specialist subject on Mastermind?

I would win the first round with the “Wars of the Roses”, smash the next round with the “Life and times of Lady Jane Grey” and then win with the “Battle of Towton 1461”.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I am proud of my Lincolnshire heritage and have supported Lincoln City all my life and love to go and watch them when I can – UTI!

Thanks for answering our questions, Mark. We definitely need to know more about the TV and film projects you’ve been in!
